Starting With ₹1 Lakh OYMOM Healthcare Private Limited began with one lakh rupees and a conviction I couldn't fully explain to anyone but myself: that Bihar's farmers deserved the same quality of dairy and animal health infrastructure that states like Gujarat had spent decades building. The numbers told an uncomfortable story. Gujarat's dairy cooperative model collects milk from roughly 18,000 villages and exports with clockwork efficiency. Bihar has 45,103 villages — more than double — and still depends on other states to meet its own dairy needs. Somewhere in that gap between what Bihar has and what Bihar could produce was an entire industry waiting to be built, village doctor by village doctor, farmer by farmer. So we started small. One block. One team. A handful of farmers willing to trust a stranger with a plan for their cattle. What We Were Actually Fighting It wasn't just about starting a business — it was about untangling a knot of problems that had quietly held back Bihar's dairy economy for years: A severe shortage of veterinary doctors, with a single government doctor often responsible for an entire hospital's worth of animals Poor milk collection infrastructure and inconsistent pricing that left farmers with no real bargaining power Low awareness around nutrition, breeding, and preventive care Predatory informal lenders filling the vacuum left by the absence of real institutional support Every one of these problems had a workaround being exploited by someone — usually not the farmer. We built OYMOM to change who that workaround served. Three Years. Crores in Turnover. Zero Shortcuts. By the time we crossed our third year, what started as a one-lakh-rupee idea had turned into a company doing crores in turnover — not because we found a shortcut, but because we did the unglamorous work: door-to-door farmer visits, real veterinary support, dairy procurement systems that treated farmers as partners rather than suppliers, and interest-free loan support so farmers could actually grow their herds instead of staying trapped in debt cycles. The Morning I Saw My Own Story in Print I still remember picking up that copy of Dainik Jagran and seeing my own journey summarized in a few paragraphs and a photograph — "Engineering chhodkar pashu seva mein rozgar ka srijan" — an engineer who left his job to create employment through animal healthcare. It's strange what recognition does to a decision you've already made peace with. I didn't need the article to know the work mattered. But there's something different about watching your conviction reflected back at you in newsprint, knowing that people who had no reason to believe in an unproven founder from Bihar Sharif were now reading about what we'd built. That was the first time I understood that this wasn't just my story anymore. It belonged to every farmer who had taken a chance on OYMOM before anyone else was willing to write about us. Why This Is Only the Beginning Bihar doesn't need to import its dairy future from Gujarat. It has more villages, more untapped potential, and — I'd argue — more resilience per farmer than anywhere else I've worked. What it needed was infrastructure, trust, and someone stubborn enough to build both at the same time. That recognition in 2022 wasn't a finish line. It was confirmation that the harder path was the right one — and it's the same conviction that's since carried OYMOM into ZoonoTrack.AI, NandiBaba.AI, and PashuSOS.AI: not abandoning the mission that started in a small office in Bihar Sharif, but scaling it to the size the problem actually deserves.
